District of Columbia Public Space and Stewardship Guide
The common ground between regulation and activity is a hallmark of what makes a space activation project successful in the District. This guide provides resources for understanding both. Space activation focuses on how the space between buildings can be used for community-building. Spatial stewardship treats the public realm as a public resource and promotes the responsible use, management and maintenance of this space by communities. Learn how to maximize a place-making project’s impact and navigate local public space requirements with this DC guide
This new research defines—for the first time—where most existing WalkUPs (walkable urban places) are in the metropolitan D.C. region. It shows specific locations, the physical size of the places, the product mix, the transportation options and so forth. This study then ranks performance for these WalkUPs, based on two criteria: economics and social equity. Examine this report on the Walkable Urban Places of the DC Region
